China flag on rocket replica in Tangkak: Johor police open two investigation papers, summon organisers

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — Police have opened two investigation papers following the display of China’s flag on a rocket replica at the LED Light Festival held at the Bukit Gambir Multipurpose Hall in Tangkak, Johor.

Tangkak district police chief, Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib, said the investigations are being conducted under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, according to a report published in Harian Metro today.

According to him, a police report was lodged yesterday expressing dissatisfaction over images of the rocket replica bearing the Chinese flag logo.

“This incident occurred at a multipurpose hall in Bukit Gambir during the LED Light Festival and was shared on Facebook.

“The report was filed as residents of Bukit Gambir expressed unease about the presence of the rocket replica featuring the Chinese flag,” he said in a statement.

He added that the police have summoned the organisers to provide their statements and assist in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Bukit Gambir State Assemblyman (ADUN) Sahrihan Jani stated that the Ledang Umno Youth division had filed a police report about the incident yesterday.

He explained that he had been in contact with the Tangkak District Council (MDT) from the beginning of the issue going viral to voice concerns that the matter could cause unrest within the community.

“I emphasised the need for proactive measures, including revoking the permit and cancelling the event if the organisers are found to have violated guidelines set by MDT and the authorities.

“I reiterate my call for firm action to be taken, including prosecution in court against the organisers and the immediate closure of the carnival. An apology alone is insufficient to absolve this wrongdoing.

“The Bukit Gambir community highly values harmonious and united living, with mutual respect for each other’s customs, cultures, and beliefs,” he said.
