KUANTAN: Frustrated and saddened that the constituents in the Indera Mahkota parliament seat were deprived of the best services, Datuk Quek Tai Seong broke into tears during a dinner event recently.

Quek, who is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Indera Mahkota, was in tears as he made an emotional plea for voters to give him the chance to serve the people in the constituency.

“During the speech, I became sad as the people have not been receiving proper attention from the elected representatives and I pleaded to them to give me the mandate to prove myself to them….give me one chance.

“Being a local and someone who has worked with the former MCA assemblyman in Semambu, I have a lot of plans and need the opportunity to serve the people and provide the best for them… that is the reason I became emotional and started to shed tears,” he said when met at a night market in Indera Mahkota here today.

A video clip of Quek breaking down in tears while addressing the Chinese community during a dinner has been circulating on social media.

Clad in a BN vest, the MCA Indera Mahkota division chief who spoke in Mandarin was seen appealing to the crowd to give him the mandate in Indera Mahkota.

It was reported that Quek was earlier speaking about the poor results shown by MCA in the previous elections before he became emotional.

Quek, 43, had previously served as the special officer to three-term Semambu assemblyman Datuk Pang Tsu Ming.

Quek, who had also served as the political secretary to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, had contested the Semambu state seat during the 14th general election but he lost to Andansura Rabu from Pas.

In GE15, he will be against incumbent Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah from Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan’s Zuraidi Ismail and Pejuang’s Dr Mohamad Nor Sundari.
