KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — Renowned Japanese voice actor Kensho Ono, famous for voicing Harry Potter in the Japanese dub of the blockbuster film series, is set to make his first-ever public appearance in Malaysia this Saturday.
Ono will be the special guest at the gala premiere screening of Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe at GSC LaLaport BBCC. He is scheduled to appear after the 1.00pm screening in Hall 1 for a special fan session.
In the highly anticipated animated film, Ono voices the titular character, Hathaway Noa, a role he reprises following the success of the first instalment.
Ono began his career as a child actor before his breakout role as the Japanese voice of Harry Potter in 2001’s The Philosopher’s Stone.
Over the past two decades, he has become one of the industry’s most sought-after talents, lending his voice to major anime series, video games, and stage productions.
His latest film, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, was released in Japan on January 30, 2026, where it grossed over 840 million yen (RM25.2 million) in its opening weekend.
What is ‘Gundam Hathaway’?
Set in the year Universal Century 0105, the film follows “Mafty,” a resistance group fighting the corrupt Earth Federation government. Unbeknownst to the world, Mafty’s leader is Hathaway Noa, the disillusioned son of legendary Federation war hero Bright Noa.
Haunted by his past and driven by a desire for justice, Hathaway’s mission becomes complicated when he encounters Gigi Andalucia, a mysterious young woman with psychic abilities who can seemingly peer into his deepest memories and emotions.
The film explores complex themes of rebellion, trauma, and conflicting ideals in a future teetering on the brink of war.
The Malaysian gala premiere is expected to be a major gathering for the local Gundam community, which is still buzzing from the recent opening of the country’s first permanent Gundam Base Malaysia flagship store at Fahrenheit88 last month.
The fan session with Ono will include a live Q&A, a special live dubbing performance, and a lucky draw.
Gala premiere ticket packages, priced at RM200, include a collectible ticket, a holographic poster, and an exclusive illustration card.
For those unable to attend the premiere, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is scheduled for its official nationwide release in Malaysian cinemas on May 21.
