Huawei FreeBuds 4: An Honest Review

The latest earbuds from Huawei are the FreeBuds 4 which are an iterative improvement over the FreeBuds 3 of 2019. These earbuds have an open ear design featuring noise cancellation but look smaller than FreeBuds 3.

Huawei declares that the FreeBuds 4 can filter out up to 25dB of encircling sound. It has a relatively more compact form factor with long-lasting battery life. Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity makes freebuds more useful thus enhancing the user experience.

Features

Huawei freebuds 4 have exceptional sound quality and decent battery life. Let’s have a detailed look at its specs:

Weight

Each earbud has a mere  4.1 grams of weight and measures 16.8 mm in width, 41.4 mm in height and 18.5 mm in depth. The weight of the charging case is 38grams after the buds are removed. It has a pebble shape having a height of 21.2 mm and a diameter of 58mm.

Design

These freebuds come in a beautiful, attractive, and exquisite design giving a regular look of Huawei’s premium products. They fit the ears easily because of their comfortable top-notch build and lightweight. You get easily adapted to wearing them and do not even feel that they are in your ears after some time.

Sound

FreeBuds 4 has 14.3mm, dynamic coil drivers. No matter what you listen to, for instance, songs, podcasts, games, or YouTube videos the sound is clear, crisp, and rich in all situations. Unlike many other freebuds, these do not over-pronounce bass. Although they are not the loudest TWS buds but provide a balanced sound as compared to other affordable options at this price.

Microphone

The voice recordings from the onboard microphone are decent, however, the sound is slightly stifled. Here Apple’s AirPods prove to be the gold standard for an accurate voice pickup. There is a chance of clear and loud shindig when talking to someone on call. A plus point is a windproof duct due to which Huawei’s FreeBuds 4 does an extraordinary job in windy environments.

Battery Life and Charging

The FreeBuds have a battery life of 4 hours when used while disabling ANC. But when ANC is enabled, these earbuds work for approximately 2.5 hours. Yet the charging case increases those numbers from 14 hours to 22 hours. You can enjoy 2.5 hours of music playback after a quick fast charge for 15 minutes. So you can expect the freebuds 4 to last for at least two days. Impressively it charges fully in just 30 minutes so you will not have to wait for so long.
