It is estimated that 25% of adult workers struggle with mental illness at some point in their careers, but less than half get the help they need from their company or their doctor.
Employees with issues like anxiety and depression account for loss of time and productivity. Focusing on managing staff satisfaction and well-being can improve the bottom line for companies and increase focus and efficiency.
Creating a company that puts employees’ health first is the most critical way to build a strong team.
Here are some ways to support your employees’ mental health.
1. Training
Provide management training to educate your executive branch on recognising employees’ needs. Your management staff should be aware and invested in the well-being of all employees and trained on how to offer support.
Informational seminars followed by open discussion can help to reduce the stigma of mental health issues within your team.
2. Benefits coverage
In the US, the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act mandates that all corporate insurance policies include coverage for mental well-being and addiction issues. Companies everywhere could help their employees by providing mental health coverage.

3. Policies and hotlines
Fear of stigma and shame prevent those struggling with mental health issues from getting help. Implementing a confidential system like an employee hotline could encourage staff to reach out for help when they need to.
Employee assistance programmes that maintain privacy could be made available to all employees at no cost.
4. A culture of well-being
Remove the stigma of mental health issues by including education and open communication in your company’s culture and policies. Creating a supportive and open environment can help those struggling to feel more comfortable about seeking help.
Your company should be a community where all employees can find support and comfort. Working towards a culture that embraces their well-being and positive mental health can help your business thrive.
