VALORANT eSports tournament kicks off with RM5,000 prize pool

GAMING network MyGameOn (MGO) is kicking off Squad Up Arena, the next evolution in the Squad Up eSports tournament series that caters to all gamers.

This is a follow-up to the network’s Squad Up: Athena eSports tournament held earlier this year, which championed female gamers across Southeast Asia. A total of 24 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams participated in it.

A subsidiary of digital publisher REV Media Group, MGO wants to spotlight the entire video game community with the theme of #IniGameKami for Squad Up Arena. At the same time, they hope this will continue the advancement of Malaysian eSports.

Fans can look forward to the Squad Up Arena x VALORANT Open Tournament, one of the first tournaments of its kind in Malaysia, which begins today.

REV Media Group’s Head of Gaming Content Adrian Lai said, “As promised, we’re back with another Squad Up, and we’re aware of our fans’ interest in a tournament for VALORANT, one of the most popular competitive shooters in the world today.

“We’re excited to host this, and we expect to see healthy competition from the players in their quest to win their share of the RM5,000 prize pool.

“We aspire to take Malaysian eSports to the next level, and Malaysia’s gold medal haul at the recent Commonwealth Esports Championships is proof of our nation’s calibre.

“With this initiative, we hope to uncover new world-class talents and pave the way for them to compete on the international stage one day,” Lai said.

VALORANT is a free-to-play first-person hero shooter developed and published by Riot Games.

The tournament’s group stages will take place from August 15 to 17. After which, the top eight teams will battle it out in the finals, which will be live-streamed from August 27 to 28 on MyGameOn’s official Facebook, YouTube and TikTok platforms.

The tournament is open to all Malaysians aged 13 and above.
