Kickboxing and Beyoncé? Apple Fitness+ gets New Year update

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — It’s the new year, which means new resolutions for most people and that means getting fit is on most people’s to-do lists. If you aren’t already on Apple Fitness+ it’s a fun at-home alternative to a gym membership that works with your Apple TV, iPhone or iPad.

You don’t need to own an Apple Watch anymore to use the service though if you do, you will be shown your Watch metrics on the Fitness+ screen.

What’s new with this Fitness+ update? Kickboxing is another new workout choice, which adds to the service’s ever growing library.

To help you with your kickboxing adventures, you have two trainers onboard. There’s Jamie-Ray Hartshome who is not only trained in muay thai but has professional competition experience in Thailand.

Joining him is Nez Daily who was the first muay thai fighter to compete while wearing a hijab in Thailand.

Beyoncé fans can also enjoy workouts featuring her latest music that will drop on January 9 that will include yoga, Pilates, strength, treadmill, HIIT, cycling and of course, dance.

Apple’s Artist Spotlight series has workouts dedicated to particular artists, with Taylor Swift being one high profile addition last year. Expect the Foo Fighters on January 16 and Bad Bunny on January 23.

Having trouble sleeping? Enjoy the new Sleep meditation themes in the Meditation library and start off with the Introduction to Meditations for Sleep.

If you’re a fan of the service’s Time to Walk series that has voice-guided narration for your walking workouts from handpicked personalities, more have been added to the roster including actor Jamie Lee Curtis and Olympic figure skater Nathan Chen.

Need to ease back into fitness? There’s also the 6 Weeks to Restart Your Fitness and also the Level Up Your Core Training routines to get you back into the workout groove.

Pricing is either RM19.90 per month or RM119.90 (still cheaper than a gym membership) and there’s a free trial period to test the service as well, and you can share it with up to five other family members.
